After weeks and weeks of planning, we finally got the chance to sink our teeth into some proper filming. All in all, it was a successful weekend and we all had great fun, but even the greatest laid plans can go wrong.
The week before turned into a slight nightmare for me as the actor we had for our lead character of Dan decided to drop out. BRILLIANT! But help was at hand in the form of Joshua Norris, a friend of our Directors, Matt Watts. We also employed the acting talents of John Celea, a brilliant drama student from Bath Spa.
Dan- Joshua Norris Greg- John Celea
Even with a rocky start in our casting, these two worked brilliantly together, portraying the good and evil sides of a very confused teenager.
Our first shooting location was our final scene in the film, which occurred in a university office as the two characters decide to steal an exam paper. We wanted the twist in our film to unfold here, making this a very important scene. However our time in the office was cut shorter than we had scheduled due to another group wanting to film in the same location. To issue out the time fairly we decided to both spend an hour in the office. We would have liked longer to really get into this scene, but we did manage to get the shots we needed.
We spent all of the first day filming on the University Campus and then spent Sunday filming in Bath City Centre at The Green Park Tavern and The Podium.
The hideous Bath traffic decided to cut into our filming time before our podium location, but despite this set back we managed to find a brilliant spot in The Podium that was relatively quiet and very picturesque, making for a lovely shot.
We battled with the cold weather, an awkward tripod and a very confusing high-tech camera, but overall the weekend was a great success. I learnt a lot by having hands on experience with filming that i can put into the next film i make.
